Looking for commands used in dog training?
We have adopted a boxer rescue dog. She was used as a breeding dog and was abused. She has a really big issue going through doorways. She won't go through them unless you are right by her side and guiding her through. Based on some of the things she does we got to thinking she is waiting for a command to give her permission to go through. We are looking for some different commands we can try, I do not know what the professionals use. If you know of any please let us know so we can try them. Thank you for your help.More details on going through the doorways. If we go first she will just stay in the doorway and wag her tail. If we try to get her to go first she just tenses up. I have to stand next to her with my hand lightly on her neck for her to just walk through. She does this with all the doorways in the house not just the outside ones

Re: my ? about dog training from yesterday; what do you make of this?
Yesterday I asked this question, Is it possible to get a dog to do what it's been trained not to do without training it again? answers.yahoo.com question index ylt AgZvldPN72ykY9Ez8pd1Shnsy6IX ylv 3?qid 20120502014256AAieMgw In my old neighborhood there was this dog that was trained to not go near people and to stay in its own yard unless her owner was with her or gave her permission she wasn't even allowed near his kids unless he permitted her to and these two commands were repeated on a daily basis. So, she had plenty of repetition. In my replies we got it down pat about the level of training and that repetition is highly important. Now I have more to add to the story. Before I go on it is imperative that I say this neighbor and the dog had no contact whatsoever and this neighbor had never spoken once to the dogs owner. Yet, the dog took it upon itself to go into that particular neighbors yard and make friends with her.It sounds bizarre because it is bizarre and this is one of those things that people are going to look at you with a full deal of skepticism. Yet, the story is true. And I assure you it is not easy to tell.Needless to say the owner was none to happy and had to go back to the drawing board. And why do you say that Sisyphus?Besides I only ask because I have a need to know. Well, it goes to show it's wise not to talk about it.

Why is my shed dog training gone cold ?
I have been working my dog and he was moving though the training farly fast and the past couple days he has stopped coporating half of the time he wil just sit and bark at me the other half he just walks past the sheds i have planted. what should I do ??

Why are people so demagogue about dog training?
Hitting a dog is the best way to train him.Dogs that didn't receive physical correction are hysterical, expansive, dominant and stubborn. Look at my dog, he was always jumping on me, i tried to say no, i praised him when he was not jumping on me, it lasted about a week until i got really really angry at him and hit him, he never jumped on me anymore. After that he really respects me, he became a little more self centered and serene, he is now acting like a dog not like a craze b tch.

Looking for info on dog training bells?
Where can i find the dog training bells used to symbol 'potty'?I have a pom pup currently training to go outside, she's doing well, holding her wee a couple of hours, and peeing outside when i let her. I noticed today her stood against the door, when i opened it she ran straight out and pee'd. Brilliant, my only problem is if i'm in another room i'm not gonna see. She's so little that when she needs to go she's gonna go, and i don't want it to be inside lol So i've read a few people mentioning bells? I just wondered where can i buy them, are they effective and how do you train to use them??And info would be great Dx x xEsme Nope the only time she barks is at night when she's crated. She lets out a yap if she needs potty. In the day she doesn't Blue chaos Thats not a bad idea, would probably been cheaper too, thanks Peg definatley going to make them, will have to wait til tuesday now. So the trick is to open the door when the bells ring, even if there rang by accident? Also if i open the door everytime won't she just start ringing when she fancies abit of garden time? lol Also i have a pvc door, should get to scratched up, i hope

First client dropped out of my dog training classes, already!?
I used to work under a master trainer and now opened my own business. I am an experienced trainer training since 2008 with 300 hours of apprehentiship under my belt and now certified. Client brought her hubby along in class 2 and he was saying already how much progress he had seen already but then he started asking a zillion questions on why I was splitting exercises in baby steps instead of training the finished product from the get go. I explained I was making it easy for the dog and that we would then chain things together. I always gave handouts to help with homework. Was kind, understanding, patient. My sessions were 1 hour but I gladly spent for free an extra half hour just to discuss behavior problems. We ended our session and the couple appeared eager to start clicker training in the next class. Yet, they stopped coming and in ignored my reminder e mails for classes What I don't understand is why all my years in training, certifications mean nothing when an inexperienced cashier in a pet store just reads a manual and her classes are always full I know cause I worked for a big box pet store as a trainer for a few months ago but escaped cause I found the classes ridiculous. Because I live in a very rural area, I cannot find any more clients. My dog liability insurance costs an arm and a leg and I only made $40 so far. I feel like crying and calling it quits....I had a big career ahead but just because I live in a stupid place in the midwest, biggest city is 2 hours away and even the one client I had stopped coming, I have to stop doing what I love

What do u do when it siting at a restaurant and eating and some idiot walks up and starts petting your service dog in training? I took the guys hand and removed it from my dog saying " sir you cannot pet him he is working." Did I do this right? The guy was dumb. He didn't even think to ask, he just came up and pet my dog The dog has a vest and was wearing it And I was eating and saw the guy but figured he would just walk by as everyone else had. Hubby is against my dog training business, he thinks I am charging too low?
I am a certified dog trainer and live in an area of poverty. My liability insurance is very expensive and I am struggling to cover it with my earnings. Hubby puts pressure on me to get the insurance money back, and we are fighting tonight because I am charging a client $15 for classes to go to his home a 15 minute drive away. My thought $15 dollars is better than nothing and will help me get the insurance money back. His thought I am selling myself too low and wasting my time. I know for a fact that if I asked this client more he would not have done it. This guy works for a dollar store and I even feel bad to charge so much.

Dog training advice for hyper pooch?
I have a very boistrous dog, she's a bull terrier lab cross and she is quite stocky and strong. She is the kind of dog where you only need to look at her and she starts wagging her tail. I adopted her so I am not 100 % sure of her background or age one vet said she was about 3 and another said she was at least 5 so yeah I guess i may get a 3rd opinion . She is great on walks now, I've had her for about 6 months and she pulled like crazy at the start but with some training I used the start stop method, so every time she pulled i either stopped dead or turned the opposite way . Everything is going good except she is OBSESSED with other dogs. I actually dread walking round the corner and seeing another dog as I know she will go mental. She is not aggressive, all she does is pull and whimper and if she meets another dog face to face she jumps up and down wagging her tail wanting to play. we have socalised her with other dogs since we got her and she's been fine, hyper at first and then calms down but when we meet a dog on a walk it is very difficult to calm her. She has been snapped at by other dogs before as all they see is a big dog trying to run up to them and most don't like it. I don't think she gets really understand when another dog is being defensive or aggressive, she just keeps wagging her tail and trying to run over to them, she nevers barks or growls at other dogs. I just need a little advice or to tell me what else I can do. At the minute when we meet another dog and when she starts pulled I move her around a corner or behind a car and break eye contact. After that i don't move until she has calmed down but this may take a while. When she is calmed down i say good girl and then continue. i have tried using a gentle leader but this is not an option, she will lie on the ground and not move and try to rip it off with her paws. Honestly i have tried everything to get her to keep it on, i have tried showing her toys and food when she starts clawing at it to distract her but in the end she always tries to remove it I had the proper size as well as the first one I got was too small and tight and I took her down to my vets where they sell them and he fitted her with the right one. Also i will not use choke chains as my dog is positively correlated with other dogs and I don't want to make her associate a 'bad feeling' with other dogs as seeing them is the only time she will pull it will be the only time she is badly affected by the choke chain. So yeah does anyone has any advice for me, i would prefer it if it was from people who have been in the same situation but advice from anyone who is experienced in dog training is welcome too, thanks greek god, i know the difference between a prong and a choke chain, BOTH are used as method's to stop pulling so I don't see your reasoning why a prone should be solely used for this habit. i disagree with prongs even more than choke chains as they can cause even more physical damage. You say you are a realist but there are ways to control animals by using positive reinforcement. I am not going to use something on my dog that can physically damage it. Plus I know my dog, a little pain is unlikely to stop her meaning that she will continue to pull causing even more damage. For example I have to hide plastic bottles as she thinks they are toys, for some reason she likes to chew them like crazy, she has ended up cutting her gums but this hasn't stopped her because she enjoys doing it. So if she is completely focused on another dog then she will be less obvious to prongs irritating her neck. Plus the fact that she has a very large neck which has a lot of loose skin on it so
