Dog Training
Dog training information
Why do people see positive dog training as permissive dog training?
As always no TDs from me.I haven't quite understood the philosophy in Purely Positive PP training. After all withholding the reward is still a correction as is ignoring the dog. For the record I'm not a PP trainer. I do use a lot of positive techniques and tools in my training programs.

I need help with dog training?
We have had him since he was 8 weeks. He is 1 year now. We are trying to pad train him. He is a chihuahua. When ever he is in the bathroom with the pads he goes on them, when ever he is in the hall and the bathroom with the pads is open, he goes on them. But whenever he is open to the whole house he goes EVERYWHERE we have punished him by closing him in his crate, we have said NO, we have done so much and nothing is working. Are there any suggestions?we only crate punished him once.and we can't take him outside, thats why we wanted to pad train him. I need suggestions about PAD TRAININGHe knows he has done something wrong, as soon as you raise your voice he runs into the bathroom. He knows he went in the wrong spot because when you bring him to the spot where he went he is scared. We don't punish by hitting or sticking his face in the pee or poo. We just close him in the bathroom whenever he pees or poos.I tried taking him outside. I would walk him for 20 min then take him inside. I would in about 2 min find him pooping on the floor.

Which dog training service to choose (out of three)?
I am looking at different dog training services for my 12 week old APBT and found three that I am considering. The first is Petco's dog training services, which are priced at $100, but have some awful reviews from dissatisfied customers who claim that the service was not worth 50 cents, and some were even kicked out without a refund because their puppy actually had behavior problems At a dog training class The second one that I found was the Seattle Humane Society, which offers classes for $140. I haven't found any reviews for the Humane Society's classes, but they have a disclaimer that says they can kick your dog out without refunding your money if they are " too disruptive" to the other puppies. Finally, there is one called Puppy Manners in pierce county that is $155, and is located on a farm type setting. The classes run by the actual owners of Puppy Manners are all filled up, the only classes remaining are the ones given by their assistant, who appears to be in her late 20's but has an extensive history with dogs. The classes involve socialization, and instead of letting a bunch of puppies run around unattended, they have older dogs who " babysit" and monitor the puppies behavior. They allow one hour of " free time" and one hour of training. Is there anyone out there that has used these services or can suggest an appropriate class for my puppy?
What to expect out of PetCo's Dog Training classes?
I have a very beefy, 11 week old American Pitbull. When I get my paycheck for the month I am spending the $100 for 6 weeks of " Level 1" Puppy Training at PetCo. I hear a lot of good things about the dog training classes there and I always see a ton of people lined up with their dogs, but maybe that's just because it's the cheapest dog training class available. The description listed off some of the basic commands they teach the puppies as well as solutions to behavior problems, but what should I expect from their classes? And are the puppies allowed to interact, or are they kept separated during training? I want my puppy to be socialized, and I know that the Humane Society trains puppies as well as helps to socialize them with other dogs, which is very important in preventing dog aggression in Pits.I'm wondering if I should still go to the PetCo taining for $100, which is in my area and only takes one bus, or spend $140 on the Humane Society training class, which means that I would have to take two buses and transfer, all the way to Seattle, every week.He already has a good start on his training and responds to basic commands, but right now I would say he listens about 90 % when you have his full attention, but only 70 75 % when there are distractions, like other dogs. While I do think this is really impressive for a puppy his age, he could use some improvement. The main reason I want to go to the training classes is to have him listening to basic commands when there are other dogs or people present, so that he will respond better in the house, where we have lots of dogs, kids, and other distractions right now we do training sessions outside and in the bedroom . Also, there are some commands he has trouble grasping fully. For example, he doesn't understand the word " down," but he quickly responds to the hand motion, and he won't come when called or listen to commands if he is playing with the other puppy.
Help with my dogs training issues?
I have a cockapoo male, fixed that just turned 3 yesterday. he's a great dog that has had a lot of training, but he does have his problems. for one, he barks at anything that makes a sound. or if someone comes to the back door. its a real problem because he has a loud bark and wont stop for a long time. But the main problem is that he growls and snarls at us sometimes. this only happens when he gets some of our food off the table and we yell and or try to take it away from him. or if hes chewing on something like a pillow or socks he gets very defensive and while snarl and sometimes even give a 'warning bite' where he bites at the air very close to us. He's a very friendly dog most of the time and is great with children and the elderly, which is why im so confused. Why does he do this and how can we make him stop? any ideas would be great Thanks ELIZABETH C first of all i did not contradict myself. He IS a well trained dog. he can do anything from bring you specific toys to roll over and put his toys in his bin. He is not spoiled, its not like we give him whatever he wants and he almost never gets 'table food', only on holidays like thanksgiving. so while i appreciate any suggestions that you have, i also would appreciate if you would not assume things like that we treat him like a princess.
