(Posted by: red on 2010-01-19 15:19:18)
My family and I are looking for a French Bulldog breeder in Houston. We want a female puppy, but whenever i go onto a dog breeders website, it's just not good. Thanks in advance! :] |

DO NOT GO TO THE AKC WEBSITE TO FIND A BREEDER!!! ANYONE can advertise on the AKC website. You MUST go to the parent club of the breed you are interested in (French Bulldog) -or one of their local clubs-and get a referral from them. Those breeders have to breed to a code of ethics. My friend who is a Veterinarian just had an experience where someone thought they were going to a "good " breeder because they had advertised on the AKC site. Well they got a defective puppy from a person who was NOT a member of the German Shepherd Club, and of course would not take the puppy back even though it had SERIOUS MEDICAL issues. Good luck getting your puppy, there is nothing better then getting a dog from a reputable breeder. |

Get off the web. A lot of good breeders don't do a lot of web-based advertising. Talk to some vets, holistic pet stores, go to dog shows, etc. Most people who show their dogs will be happy to talk to you about where to find a good pup (most breed). |

When buying a french bulldog it is very important to buy from the best breeder out there. As a frenchie owner and weimaraner breeder I would suggest that you buy from a licensed breeder and ONLY buy a AKC registered dog. Due to the popularity of FB's these dogs are being over bread to make BIG money. It was a long process for me when we bought our lil lady because I was not happy with most of the breeders. I actually flew across the states to Oklahoma to get ours. Make sure you ask all the right questions and be aware of the bloodlines you are getting. Also be sure to check the pups nostrils and insure that they are wide open. View both parents and ask to see any certs they may have. A good way to start to find breeders in your area is to just google FB breeders in houston. Also be aware that for a good FB you will pay up to or higher than $2,000.00. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK! and most of all have fun with that pup! |

If you want a really good breeder, be willing to travel a bit. We drove 2 hours to get our German Shepherd puppy. ;3 If you find a good breeder who doesn't currently have any puppies, ask if they know any other breeders who do. They will probably be happy to help you out. maximefrenchbulldogs.com/ index.html seems to be pretty responsible; I did a quick check, but you may want to look more in detail. hotfrenchbulldogs.com/ index.html may be worth looking into. Provides health testing at request, and doesn't currently have any puppies, but you may ask where you could find good puppies. pettybulls.com/ index.html I don't think their dogs are titled, but again, you can look into that. A decent list of what to look for: maximefrenchbulldogs.com/ reputable_breeder.htm |
