Question: In a dog breeders opinion what is the min. age a puppy should be exposed to buyers & what precautions r taken?

At what age is a puppy less susceptible to diseases which can be contracted during socialization? I plan to have buyers wash their hands and use hand sanitizer when interacting with any of my husky puppies but what other precautions can I take?

You can allow buyers to see the puppies at 6 weeks after they have their first round of immunizations. No puppy should leave its mother and litter-mates before 8 weeks, though. In many states it is illegal to take a puppy from its mother before it is 8 weeks old (if it is not abandoned and there is no medical reason on the mother's part). Tell people they MAY NOT go from looking at one breeder's puppies, a shelter, a pet store, anything, to yours, they must wait a full day. If they have dogs at home, try and make sure those dogs have their shots up to date. This way it is less likely they will get communicable diseases. Also be sure to have them take off their shoes at the door so it's less likely they will track in any dog feces that could cause contamination.

Not sure about the ages thing, but have them wash their hands up to the elbow and leave their shoes outside, sometimes if people walk through glass they can pick things up and give them to the puppies. ADD-- "Show Breeders Sell Better Pups ", you got TD's because you mentioned the dreaded tail docking!! Haha kind of sad how many people think that a properly docked tail is inhumane.

I say wait until they are fully weaned, and as well have had at least one set of vaccines. If your puppy's are indoors, also consider using a shallow container in which you can put sponges in and a water bleach solution in which they can wipe their shoes in. NEVER leave the potential puppy buyer alone with any of your pets (people will try to steal) Best of luck.

I had a waiting list for my last litter. They were able to view that at 1 week old, after their tails had been docked and healed reasonably. However, i asked that everyone wear a clean set of clothes and wash their hands first. My pupy has visitors every week and did just fine. anything can be contracted when you have foreign people in your home, keep that in mind. Thats why you don't let just anyone in to see them. LOL 2 thumbs down for what? cause im strict?

I never let my buyers touch the pup until they have had their first puppy shots...then they can take them home...i wait till 4 weeks old before i even let anyone see the pups...i let them see the pups me holding them they pick the one they want put down a deposit and that's as far as it goes...washing hands doesn't do anything if they was around a dog and was the dog was outside it could have got parvo or anything on it's paws and if it touched the persons clothes parvo would be on the persons clothes...
