Question: I am searching for dog breeders in alabama that have maltese puppies at reasonable prices for sale?

And preferably started on house training. Also if there are any other suggestions on a low maintenance puppy that will make a great house dog I am open. As well as for the dog to be small and not grow big. Toy size if possible. thx in advance and also I'm in the South central part of Alabama The question of money is not important it was said because on all the websites I've looked into they all had different prices. So, I just wanted to know what was the most reasonable price to pay foe one. As for low maintenance that's off of websites I have looked at compared to other dogs. I'm not looking for answers from overly exaggerated animal lovers that love their pets more than humans. Just looking for suggestions on breeds. Thx |

A Maltese is NOT low maintenance - they must be brushed DAILY. What do you consider a reasonable price? If I were buying a high quality dog of one of my breeds I would expect to pay $1500-$2000. If price is an issue, are you going to have the $$ necessary for vet care if there is an emergency? |

Go online and look for Maltese Rescues. They are out there and the dogs are in desperate need of loving families. Some are in danger of being destroyed in shelters. Just because they are rescues does not mean they are problem dogs. A lot of purebreds are being surrendered from loving families because their houses have been foreclosed on. Don't buy, please. It only adds more dogs to the problem. |

Http:/ / americanmaltese.org/ ama_breeder_2010_list.htm#alabama There is one breeder listed with the breed club for the state of Alabama get in touch with her and maybe she can put you in touch with any other local breeders as well. Also define reasonable since paying 800 and up for a well bred pet quality pup from a reputable breeder is reasonable to some people but not others. |

Having owned a Maltese i can tell you honestly - they are no where near "low maintenance. " We're talking daily grooming, daily exercise (yes that means going for walks), professional grooming every so many months depending on how you want the coat cut, extensive training and socialization (as they are very prone to aggression, fear, and territorial behavior).... And a good quality dog of this breed/ size can be expected to be priced around $1,000 or more. For pet quality. Show quality, well... let's just say it can reach quite a bit higher than that! Rescues will be cheaper, but they won't come with any genetic guarantees or testing. General care cost alone is easily couple hundred to start, hundred or so a month for food and prevention medication, several hundred a year for vet fees, then there will be grooming fees and emergencies are always possible. Dogs are not "low cost " or "low maintenance. " Period. Not ready to accept that, don't get a dog. |

What do you consider "reasonable "? I think $800 is reasonable for a puppy that has come from properly tested parents. If that is not "reasonable " then you should consider shelter or rescue petfinder.com you will be hard pressed to find a puppy cheaper than that from a decent breeder. NO dog is "low maintenence " Maltese need daily grooming.. and even small dogs need exercize and training daily. |

Make sure to contact a lot of breeders and ask them a lot of question about their breeding program. Get references from others that have bought dogs from them in the past. Contact these people to find out how well their experience went with that particular breeder. This is the best way to ensure that you buy from a reputable breeder. Good luck. I saw a a few Maltese breeders in AL on this web page: pets4you.com/ maltese.html |
