Soon it will be my B Day and I would like to learn more about the basics Feeding, How to set up the dog's playing sleeping area, Bladder Time o, and etc. The thing I need to know most is what should I do when I'm at school. My parents will be at home sometimes I guess but I need tips on how to train it. Please and Thank you
Good dog care site (s) or possibly youtube channel?
So, I have an eight month old german shepherd chow chow mix and I want him to be as healthy and happy as possible. And I enjoy going out of my way to spoil him with things that will help him, not human food like most people do. I am looking for a really good site on dog care or maybe a youtube channel for dog care if there is one. Things like diet, games, training, exercise, and maybe even special things like how to massage a dog or anything like that.
What are your favorite books on dog care?
For all dog owners: If you had a "go-to guide for dog care" book, what would you expect or like to see in it?
Dog breed and dog care?
So, me and my family are thinking of getting a small dog. We live in a small one story home, with a fair sized yard. A large neighborhood to walk it, nearby vets, dog stores, ect. Here are some breeds we were thinking of getting Pomeranian Yorkshire Terrier Westie BeagleWe are mostly looking for a Pomeranian. I am aware of them barking alot, them being energetic, loosing its teeth, knee cap problems ect. I haven't done much research with the other breeds. But that's cause we are in love with the breed. Anyways, we don't know a nearby shelter. There's no way I'm getting one from a breeder. Cost Issues I hear their cheaper in shelters anyways. I prefer a puppy, but I know shelters don't have many of those. But I want a puppy so I can house train it faster. But then again, a full grown dog is good, because we won't have to spend too much on shots, and stuff. So, can someone please help me answer the following Are there any good shelters for dogs in Northern Virginia? Will we spend too much on veterinary care? Is it best to get a puppy or an adult? How old should it be? What's a good price to pay for it? What breed should it be?Also, the dog won't be around many kids. The real owner is going to 12 years old... We have a whole schedule planned out. When to take it outside for a walk, when to feed it, bedtimes ect.Depending on the breed you choose, can you help me answer these following questions? Is the dog hyper most of the time? runs around the house, licks people, barks too much? How much should it be fed? How long and how many times a day will it have to be taken out? Grooming basis? How often should it be bathed, get it's teeth brushed, get it's nails trimmed? There are probably some things I missed, but I didn't want this to be a huge question, but I feel like I need to type everything. Sorry So yeah, thanks for taking the time to read this. Please answer it.
This town needs dog care education; How can I help spread it?
I go to school spend most of my time in a tiny town of less than 300 in population. A lot of people have dogs. Leash laws do not exist but there has never been a problem and nor does any sort of dog licensing system, and there is no vet. The ranchers' dogs are usually well cared for and up to date on vaccines, but not the average townsperson.I live in an actually smaller town that has less that 100 people, but people here seem to me more educated about dog health care etc. Sure there aren't leash laws or anything either because it's primarily just a ranching area, but people still take better care of there animals. Despite no liscense being required in my county and no vet, we still make sure that both of our dogs are always up to date on all of their vaccines. In the town I go to school in, I've seen people kick their dogs in the street, and most of the town dogs are very skiddish and will immidiately crouch and roll over when they approach you. But what really triggered my irritation with the lack of dog care education in this town was that my little brother told me that two students in his class's puppies died of parvo this week. Keep in mind there are only like 6 or less kids in his class. This isn't the first time this has happened. I've heard of tons of puppies getting really sick and dying throughout my years in school here.Parvo is a deadly, but preventable disease. I don't think a lot of these people are even aware of how important puppy vaccines and yearly boosters are or how to prevent infection with such diseases. Or for that matter, how important rabies vaccines are considering where they all live and how close they are to nature.I know that there is no vet around, but we got all of our puppy's shots from a feed store and then took him in for a check up after administering them all, and brought him in to get his rabies vaccine later. As a Junior in High School, I'm not sure what I can do to get the word out about how important it is to vaccinate your pets. I was thinking perhaps making fliers and finding out local businesses, or even the school, would allow me to hang them up. Or maybe making pamphlets and handing them out...? I don't know if they would be read or just thrown away though...This is really irritating me.I know they can't afford Parvo Treatment, but preventing it really isn't that expensive. I want to educate these people. I just don't know what to do.

"I would like to know what are some options for my dog care?" See Below?
I will have to be traveling for awhile on and off out of state for my career. I live with my mother who has cancer. She is not sick yet. She still gets around. She may be able to watch my dog for awhile. But not in the near future. He was never socialized. That was my fault. He doesn't get along well with people. He is what you call a sneaky biter. He is about 60 pounds. He is part doberman and part Shepard. What I call a mid size dog. He does have a muzzle. But only is use to wearing it when we go to the vet. He hates it. It also can make them mean. I read.I went on vacation for 7 days once and left him at this home boarding kennel and he almost died. He refused to eat for one full week. I was never called about this. I came back just in time. He has separation anxiety.. but must eat or he will die. The only thing I can think of is perhaps to check out the Veterinary boarding maybe they are more equipped to handle this type of dog. They probably have seen worse and larger then him.Maybe they would know how to get him to eat if he refuses. Any suggestions? I have no family or friends to help me out here. Just my mother whom he is use to.
