Whats us a good online Dog Training School? I am interested in becoming a therapy dog/service dog trainer?
I am currently an unemployed Social Worker with a strong passion for dogs and their ability to have a positive impact on others lives. I am interested in one day opening a business that provides dog training and therapy dog services and I am not quite sure where to start. I figure becoming a dog trainer is a good first step and I need some advise on online dog training schools. I have heard good and bad things about ABC but that is the only school for dog training I have heard of. Can anyone help me?I know that ABC is mainly theory and paperwork however they require volunteer work and an externship. So there is a hands on aspect you just do not go to a campus. Would a dog trainer be willing to let a 15 year old train under them?
I'm going to start asking around soon, so just wondering. I have plenty experience with dogs, I worked at a boarding kennel and I solely trained my late dog.
Why are some dog trainers so rude and think they know everything?
As some of you may no I have a kid aggressive Yorkshire Terrier. Well as of 4 months ago I found out I was pregnant and I really need to get her to a state where she is not terrified of everyone under 10 years old. I don't blame her for hating little kids, I would hate anyone who shoved me in a tonka truck and beat me too, but she has gotten to the point where she lunges at any little person that comes near her. She used to just sit down with her tail tucked and her head down and growl but ever since an incident in Central Park a few months ago she has been aggressively trying to attack children. This is usually not a problem for me because I hate kids. I find them annoying and unbearable to be around but now that it is my child I feel the need to protect him her. Even before I was pregnant I was trying to find a good trainer but they all were snobby know it alls that would disobey my wishes and harm my dog.Trainer 1 used a choke chain on her after I told him about her regular tracheal collapes and he sent her to the hospital. He kept insisting that I listen to him and that the only way to help her was to use the choke chain.Trainer 2 Shocked her and had her hiding under a table for the entire day. This was after I told him about her previous indcident where someone had put the collar on too tight and shocked her on high so it burned her and had her sent to the vet.Trainer 3 Didn't even bother to acknowledge that we had an appointment. Instead she just called me a day later and said " I can't help just put the dog to sleep" . Just like that. She didn't even meet the dog in person but she just automatically thinks she should be killedNow we are in the hands of a wonderful dog behaviorist who is working wonders with Melody my dog . So back to the question. Why are dog trainers snobby know it alls that think they know everything about every dog in the world? Chookie My dog knows basic and advanced commands. She is trained she is just fearful Chookie My dog knows basic and advanced commands. She is trained she is just fearful

Do you have to go to school to be a dog trainer, if yes than how long?

Should I be a dog trainer?
Alright...I'm 17 and absolutely love dogs and dog behavior. I always knew I wanted to have a career that's either creative artist, photographer or musician or animal related behaviorist, veterinarian, etc. I cannot imagine having a career that doesn't involve dogs, I've been intrigued by them since I was 7 years old, and I know so much about them. However, everyone has always told me that to be successful you should go for something that requires higher education schooling, so I always thought that I was going to be a small animal vet, go to a university for several years, open up my own practice, and yada yada. But I don't really want to.. I just don't feel motivated enough to go through all of that work to become a vet. I'm good with handling blood and surgery and all of that, it doesn't bother me, and I find the medical field to be interesting, but I can't see myself doing it. Dog training and psychology is so fascinating, dogs are like no other species with their ability to understand people, and it's amazing Dog training combines both my love for animals and creative art, as well as that bit of science that I crave. The only problem is that dog trainers' pay isn't so hot... usually around $20,000 to $30,000 a year. But I don't want to be stuck at Petco as an obedience trainer all my life, I really enjoy traveling and would like to learn as much as possible about dogs so behavior, psychology, training, therapy, massage, nutrition, and I might even train dogs for film and entertainment. Luckily I live in Florida, where trainers make the most money out of any other state according to 2009 labor bureau census, and I could always move up to Atlanta dog training seems popular there. So, I feel torn. What should I do...become a dog expert in the training field or aspire for a career with a better, more stable salary? Thanks so much One of my favorite teachers once told me " just do what you love and the money usually follows."
Does anyone know of a dog trainer in casper wy that trains both obedience and protection?

How to become a service dog trainer?
I was skeptical for a while on what I wanted to be when I graduate high school. I was watching a documentary narrated by Neil Patrick Harris on service dogs and I automatically knew that's what I wanted to do. I've always seen myself doing something to help people out. I had my mind set on being a carpenter but i wasn't exactly sure about it after I gave it a lot of thought. But training service dogs for people that are physically disabled, autistic, or blind is definitely something I want to do. I'm just having some trouble finding information on the career. What I want to know is the requirements to get the job. Is there a school for this type of occupation? If so, what ae the requirements for the school? Im really really interested in this and believe me I am not just wasting your time. I live in the Greater Toronto Area and really don't want to move. I am in grade 9 and really need to know the high school requirements for this occupation as well. If anyone knows anything about this occupation and how to get into it please help me, any information is helpful. Thank you in advance
