Question: What is the best dog harness or collar for dog training?
(Posted by: The Thinker on 2011-12-28 08:31:41)
I am beginning to train my terrier ( no easy feat !) and looking at getting a really good harness or collar that is good to help stop pulling and for training. I have heard that the Easy Walk and Sense- ation harness are good, although I can't seem to find a UK store that sells the Sense- ation. Also the Ezy dog harness is supposed to be good. Are there ant dog trainers or pet owners with any ideas on which is best. I currently just have a collar. Thanks. |

I have a 10 Lb. terrier mix and I use the Premiere Easy Walk harness. It's great- there's pretty much no training involved, it just works. However, it won't train your dog to walk nicely on a collar- it only works while the dog is on the harness (which, for me, is all the time during walks.) I like the Easy Walk because it comes in many colors and many sizes- if you order it online, there are "in between " sizes. This is the website I ordered from and they ship outside the US. petexpertise.com/ dog-collars-dog-harnesses/ no-pull-dog-harnesses/ easy-walk-no-pull-harness.html Just make sure you measure your dog according to their fitting guides. |

Harness! the harness also does less damage to the muscle and bone structure. as the dog pulls with chest with a harness and neck with collar. if ur dog is pulling you can also hear choking so u can tell the dog is hurting. make sure its also a fleece harness bc the other fabric will brake fur. goodluck! |

A week ago I bought a HALTI collar from the pets at home supermarket, It's a big UK chain, mine is near J9 on the M6. it was in the sale down from £11 to £8 for the big size for my Akita (big dog , German shepherd size) and he pulls like a tugboat. worked straight away and after 2 days I was able to go back to a normal collar, he learns fast. if he starts pulling again I can use it again to remind him. It is called a head-collar, there is a strap OVER the nose and a gentle pull pulls his nose down so he can't see where he is going, nobody likes running blind. I use 2 leads, 1 to the Halti and 1 to his old collar in case he slips it off, but you can use it with one lead, there is a short safety rope with it to connect the 2 collars together They do not work on short nose dogs like Shiz tsu or pugs Pets at home have a website, google for it. |

The EZ walk Harness from Premier Pet Products is an excellent harness that is designed to prevent pulling. It comes in a variety of sizes to fit any breed. We used it with our daughter's 80 pound Lab and walking him was a much more pleasant experience. You can also teach your dog to walk on a loose leash with a regular collar. I'll link to a post I wrote on loose leash walking and I'll link to the Premier Site. You can order a harness on their online store. |

Harness, but steer away from these "anti-pull " harnesses they can cause severe burn marks under their armpits. A harness will help you control him without damaging him! Perhaps consult to a qualified trainer to see which ones they recommend? petsathome.com/ shop/ pets-at-home-red-padded-nylon-dog-harness-58203 This is a good one ( i used it on my husky) |

Neither a collar or a harness stops a dog from pulling the dog pulls - you pull - the dog pulls more consistent training is the answer- dont give up and insist on what you want. If you have a collar place it high on the neck(towards the ears off the neck muscle) Only allow forward movement when the dog doesnt pull an example of this is changing direction- when there is tension on the lead change direction- on changing direction it releases the tension - as soon as the dog pulls again change direction again Dont give up - he will start to slow down and look at you for direction and soon will realise pulling is getting him nowhere. I have had a couple of confirmed strong pullers (older rescue dogs) and tried this method which worked (as i refused to be one of those people being dragged down the street by a dog!!) Good luck and dont worry about looking silly during training!! |
