If you are in the United States, I would start here: akc.org/ clubs/ search/ index.cfm?action= obed &display= on AKC-affiliated obedience clubs usually offer the best training at the lowest cost of any option I have found. They are volunteer-run organizations so your training fee only goes to cover cost of facilities and basic club expenses like that. To become a trainer usually means that you've been training dogs for a decade or more and have advanced titles on several different dogs, most also have an apprenticeship program so new instructors work with and under more experienced ones. If there isn't one in your area, google dog trainers and see what comes up. I recommend finding a trainer that has AKC titles on dogs of more than one breed and who uses a method that you are comfortable with. Good luck!

There are some very good dog training websites that will be a lot cheaper and probably more effective than using a 'live' trainer. A good one I found that has some good suggestions and ideas is dogtrainingguruonline.com
