(Posted by: on 2011-11-12 14:24:19)
Back in my country, my dog used to go potty in the bathroom.. and we had no problem with that.. but we moved and were apart from her for a year, now she is back with us in another house. (With carpet, unlike the other one) so i can't see if she pottied anywhere in the house until i smell it.. so instead of trying to get her to go to one place im trying to potty train her to go outside.. and we take her outside 4 tmes a day and she potties outside and whatever.. but she ALSO does it inside! Our carpets smell awful now, all over! We are getting our carpet cleaned, but we can't pay that AGAIN... How can i potty train her? she is 4 years old.. Please tell me a method, , i'll stick to it. Please help? My mom is getting VERY mad about all this.. I wake up at 6 and leave at 7:30.. i'm Back at 3:00 what should i do at that time?? Whens should i feed her? |

Pretend she is a new dog. This is the method I use for every new dog or puppy that moves into my home. Schedule-Confine-Supervise Schedule- the feeding and potty times. An adult is fed twice a day. A puppy is fed four times a day up to 10 or 12 weeks, then three times a day through adolescence. They need to potty first thing in the morning, last thing at night, within a few minutes of every meal, and every few hours in between. The “in between” hours are calculated by their age in months: 1 month = 1 hour, up to 6 months/ hours. So, a three month old puppy should be taken to potty every three hours in between the other scheduled times. When the dog/ puppy is taken to potty, wait with him as he ‘does his business’ and then praise like crazy. The neighbors should be able to hear you. Confine- the puppy or dog whenever it is not being watched. Confinement can be in a crate (especially at night), an exercise pen, or behind a baby gate in a very small and puppy-proofed room. Supervise- the puppy or dog whenever it is loose in the home. This means having eyes on it, not on the TV. Play with the puppy, do a five minute training session, groom it, or just let it lie at your feet with a safe chew, but have it within sight at all times. If it squats then give a loud “NO” or “ACK” as you scoop and run to the appropriate potty spot. Do not let the dog return to the accident spot until it has been thoroughly cleaned and wiped with vinegar or a commercial enzyme product to remove all urine odor. |

Well when you catch her in the act pop her butt a little with your hands, look her in the eye and say NO put her on a leash Go outside and walk for 30 min. Or less Walk each day for exercise and to teach her a lesson. |

If your backyard is fenced, let her stay outside more longer. It depends on what kind dog you have. I have the same issue with my 2 dogs too. We try to let them go out more often during the day, then kennel them at nighttime or put them in a specific place where it will reduce the searching of where they went. 4 times a day is not enough. It has to be more than that. I think that's because she is used to going to bathroom in the house as she thought it was okay which is not. |

You will need at act like she is a puppy all over and take her out every hour and crate her when inside. If you see her pee on the carpet you need to correct her, tell her no, take her out & show here where to go. Buy the biggest metal crate you can to make it her room while you are away and make it very comfortable for her, but you need to take her out 3-4 hours, But you can not leave her in a crate all day. If you are gone many hours you are better off getting baby gates and keeping her in the kitchen on hard floors. |

You should consider crate training she should be taken out on a leash when you take her out so you can praise her when she is good she should go out first thing in the morning then feed and take back outside put in the crate when you are not home as soon as you get home take her out feed her again take out and then take out every 2 hours let her out when you can keep an eye on her and as sooon as you see her attempting or acting like she has to potty take out if you aren't able to keep an eye on her then she needs to be crated |
