A question about puppy training..?

Question: A question about puppy training..?

I have a 6 month old coton de tulear. He's potty trained and doesn't bite anymore, but I can't stop him from barking. He always barks when the front door opens, when I leave for school or work, and sometimes when my family is eating. It's really, really frustrating. How can I get him to stop?

Smacking him on the nose does not work. Being firm with him does but smacking him on the nose is cruel.

I don't believe in just letting him do it and he'll grow out of it. I think when your puppy does that you need to be firm And say no and smack him on the nose. Everytime! This way he will think that it's wrong and will stop doing it. As he stops doing it and lays there, then you say good boy and give a treat. This way you show him that your in charge. Your the pack leader.
