6 week old puppy training?

Question: 6 week old puppy training?

(Posted by: monstere316 on 2010-07-22 22:16:12)

I have a 6 week old rottweiler puppy (I know, too young to be taken home) but I have already started potty training him and he has been weened. When can I start training him to sit, lay down, stay?

Yeah, a bit to young to bring home. At least you know tho. Well I think a 6 week old will know how to sit on command. Give it a try. youtube.com/ watch?v= _0bZk2UQJNY :) good Luck.

If you know he's too young to be taken home, why don't you do the only intelligible thing and take him *back*? What you need to teach him before you even THINK about any other training is bite inhibition, or else you are going to end up with a dog that mouths and bites uncontrollably. Bite inhibition can be taught to an extent at any time in life, but a dog can only fully grasp it within the first few months, which is why you aren't supposed to take them before 8-12 weeks.

You know its good to start as soon as possible because the younger they our there brains will suck in more knowledge

He can learn these things now. Positive reward training, little and often. He will soon learn. # J, It is illegal to masquarade as a professional, but if you do try to pretend to be a Vet, at least learn how to spell veterinarian correctly and use the correct term !

Start working with him right away. Just don't have high expectations or these long drawn out 'training sessions'. I once brought a puppy home at 6 weeks as well, I just started by being consistent, lots of repetition and like the potty training he will catch on. I can't remember but i believe he knew the sit command by about 8-9 weeks and stay/ come was shortly after that. It was quite early on.

Rottie's are very smart and enjoy learning new things so teaching them is a great way to bond. i suggest that as long as you make the training a fun and happy time and as long as you are able to stay calm and relaxed and keep your pup this way that a 5-10minute training session each day is a great idea. i suggest that you use reward based training methods and focus on teaching your pup a hand action as well as a voice command. dogs learn hand actions lots faster than human words so by using both your pup will learn how to sit faster by watching for the action that signals the command, but when you continue to pair the hand action with the voice command he will soon pick up what the word means you want. so basically, keep training sessions fun and use treats to teach him, if he's too excited play a game instead and then go back to trying to train him after, make sure you are calm and not frustrated, if you are play a game and wind down, don't let yourself get annoyed or frustrated, this should be fun for you too! good luck!
