Puppy training tips needed!?

Question: Puppy training tips needed!?

(Posted by: on 2010-08-21 13:35:35)

So... this is my first puppy... I've adopted dogs in the past and trained them just fine, but I have no idea where to start with this puppy... she doesn't respond the same as the dogs have, she doesn't like treats, she doesn't understand when i tell her good girl, or bad girl, i just need some puppy training tips from anyone who has done this before, i'm open to anything and everything positive, i've tried correcting her and punishing her before, and she does not respond well to punishment, she thinks i'm always mad at her when i'm not, so i need positive training help. things like "come, sit, stay, shake " not chewing on trash or the furniture, leash training, crate training, etc... i bought a book, that didn't seem to help much, it wasn't very personal, so if anyone wants to let me know any of their secrets, that would be amazing, thanks everyone!!!! <3 <3 <3

Puppies aren't like dogs. They don't retain what your telling them and they dont understand your words. It will take probably a year to train a puppy properly if you put a lot of time and effort into it. This is because there brain is to small to remember things. One way you can teach them is by show them what to do. When you say shake put her paw on your hand and shake her paw. This way she knows what you mean. Then ask her again and do the same as before. The third time you do it place her paw in your hand and shake it but praise her. Then it'll start to click. Do this over and over and then in a month start letting her place her paw in your hand if she hasn't started already. The same works for come sit and stay. You make her do the action give her love for letting you show her. Then you keep it up till she gets the hang of it. By the 3 or 4 month she should start being enforced with negative reinforcements along with positive. When she doesn't respond simply don't let her lick you and act like your ignoring her this will make he realize what she did is bad. The best treat to a puppy is love.

Be very patient with puppies and if they make a mistake its OK. just don't praise them for it. puppies have very short attention spans, so train them a little at a time about twice or three times a day. good luck!!
